THE GREAT TEXAS WARRANT ROUNDUP
2-01-20 TO 3-31-20
WARRANT ROUNDUP PHASE 1 – Just before The Great Texas Warrant Roundup begins, the State of Texas mails out thousands of notices statewide to people with active warrants. The letters warn that local law enforcement agencies are participating in the warrant roundup and provide information about how to contact their respective traffic ticket courts to pay outstanding ticket fines and warrants. Before the program officially starts, many of the ticket courts offer a two-week “grace period” so people can come down to the traffic ticket court and resolve their outstanding traffic ticket warrants. This is normally called “Phase 1” of the Great Texas Warrant Roundup.
WARRANT ROUNDUP PHASE 2 – After the grace period is over, the Great Texas Warrant Roundup officially begins and goes into “Phase 2”. In the second phase – which often lasts for several weeks – those who have outstanding warrants are eligible for immediate arrest on the spot. If arrested, they will be brought to court to answer for their warrants before a judge, if a judge is not available they will be taken direction to jail.
A Texas Department of Public Safety program that has gained national notoriety over the past six years as a statewide warrant enforcement effort.
